Beck's triad - pericardial tamponade

The triad is still a useful clue to the presence of severe pericardial tamponade. It was described by Dr Claude S. Beck, a thoracic surgeon, in 1935. It consists of :
1) hypotension,
2) muffled heart sounds,
3) elevated jugular venous pressure.
